You’re Getting A What?

I saw your brother running the lake this morning. I must not have ran fast enough because he saw me too. It made me laugh a little at myself - you weren’t the only one in your family I tried running from. Although, I don’t know if I picked up the pace because I didn’t want him to kick my ass or because I really just didn’t want a forced and uncomfortable conversation. Oh yeah and because I’m sure if he wanted to hide my body, he’d have no trouble doing so in that location. Once I heard him call my name I knew it was over, so I stopped and we walked toward one another. Of course I had to act surprised. He extended his hand, so I figured I was safe. I always liked him most out of your siblings. We actually had a nice conversation and I thought I was going to walk away from it without having to hear about you. We both know I’m not that lucky. All he said were things that I already know - that you’re doing well and you’re excited to go down south. I think he noticed that struck a nerve. I know I don’t have a say in any of it, but it’d be great if you changed your mind about leaving. Even though we’re not talking, I prefer you in the same state as me. Ignoring each other is a lot more bearable that way. He also said you’re thinking about getting a cat.  A cat? Really? You don’t even like cats. You’ve always been a dog person. You tried insulting me one time by saying I’m unaffectionate like a cat and only come around on my terms. Your brother kept talking but I kept thinking about you and cats. He asked me how I’ve been and what’s new. I really didn’t know what to say to him. I obviously couldn’t tell him the truth - so all I said was “I’m pretty good” and we both shared an awkward nod, because we both knew it was a lie. He said he wanted to come to one of my shows the next time I play out, but I know that’s just something people say. He put his hand on my shoulder and told me to take care of myself, then he firmly gripped my shoulder and said “seriously.”  And he went back to running and I stood there till he was no longer in sight and I made my way back to the car because I didn’t feel like running anymore.  A cat, really?
